Evaluating Sources & Evidence
Aligned to C3.D3 — C3 Framework for Social Studies State Standards.
What this lesson teaches
Not all sources are equally reliable. Check who made it, when, why, and whether other evidence agrees. Corroborate claims across multiple sources.
Worked example
A merchant's account praising his own city might be biased; comparing it with a traveler's account and trade records gives a more reliable picture.
Practice questions
- List three questions to test a source's reliability.
- Why corroborate across several sources?
- Spot a possible bias in a one-sided account.
