MS-PS2 Forces, motion and interactions
Aligned to MS-PS2 — Next Generation Science Standards.
What this lesson teaches
An object's motion changes only when an unbalanced force acts on it, and every push comes with an equal push back the other way. Some forces act without touching, like gravity and magnetism, and they get stronger or weaker depending on mass and distance.
Worked example
When you push off a wall while standing on a skateboard, the wall pushes back on you with equal force, sending you rolling backward. A magnet held close to a paperclip pulls hard, but moved farther away the pull weakens until it cannot lift the clip.
Practice questions
- What must happen for an object's motion to change?
- Explain the equal-and-opposite forces when you jump off a skateboard.
- How does the distance between a magnet and a metal object affect the force?

MS-PS2 Fuerzas, movimiento e interacciones
