The Five Regions of the United States

What this lesson teaches
Geographers group the United States into five regions: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West. States in the same region often share landforms, climate, resources, and ways of making a living.
Worked example
The Midwest has wide, flat plains with rich soil, so it grows huge fields of corn and wheat. The West has tall mountains and deserts, so people there mine, ranch, and visit national parks.

- Explain why states in the same region are often alike in climate and jobs.

Los geógrafos agrupan Estados Unidos en cinco regiones: el Noreste, el Sureste, el Medio Oeste, el Suroeste y el Oeste. Los estados de una misma región suelen compartir accidentes geográficos, clima, recursos y formas de ganarse la vida.
Ejemplo: El Medio Oeste tiene llanuras amplias y planas con suelo muy fértil, por eso cultiva enormes campos de maíz y trigo. El Oeste tiene montañas altas y desiertos, por eso la gente allí trabaja en minas, ranchos y visita parques nacionales.
