Word Problems with Times as Many

What this lesson teaches
Some word problems compare two amounts using 'times as many.' Multiply when you know one amount and how many times bigger the other is. Divide when you know the big amount and want the small one. Use a box for the unknown.
Worked example
A red rope is 6 feet long. A blue rope is 4 times as long. How long is the blue rope? Unknown = box. 6 x 4 = box, so box = 24. The blue rope is 24 feet long.
Practice questions
- A cat weighs 5 pounds. A dog weighs 3 times as much. How many pounds is the dog?
- Maya read 28 pages. That is 4 times as many as Leo read. How many pages did Leo read?
- A tall tree is 30 feet. A short tree is 6 feet. The tall tree is how many times as tall as the short tree?

Problemas con veces mas
Algunos problemas comparan dos cantidades usando 'veces mas.' Multiplica cuando sabes una cantidad y cuantas veces mas grande es la otra. Divide cuando sabes la cantidad grande y buscas la pequena. Usa una casilla para lo desconocido.
Ejemplo: Una cuerda roja mide 6 pies. Una cuerda azul es 4 veces mas larga. Cuanto mide la cuerda azul? Desconocido = casilla. 6 x 4 = casilla, entonces casilla = 24. La cuerda azul mide 24 pies.
