What this lesson teaches
No community makes everything it needs. Trade means giving one thing to get another. Communities depend on each other, so they trade goods and services back and forth.
Worked example
A town near the ocean might trade fish to a farm town, and the farm town trades back corn and wheat — each gets what it cannot make itself.
