Forces and Motion

What this lesson teaches
Forces can be balanced (no change in motion) or unbalanced (motion changes). Patterns in motion can be observed and predicted.
Worked examples
Example 1
In tug-of-war, if both teams pull equally the rope doesn't move (balanced); when one pulls harder, the rope moves toward them (unbalanced).
Example 2
A book sitting on a table has gravity pulling it down and the table pushing it up equally, so it does not move.
Example 3
Give a hockey puck one push on smooth ice and it keeps gliding. It slows down only because friction pushes back.

Fuerzas y movimiento
Las fuerzas pueden estar equilibradas (sin cambio en el movimiento) o desequilibradas (el movimiento cambia). Los patrones en el movimiento se pueden observar y predecir.
Ejemplo 1: En un juego de jalar la cuerda, si los dos equipos jalan con la misma fuerza la cuerda no se mueve (equilibrado); cuando uno jala más fuerte, la cuerda se mueve hacia ese lado (desequilibrado).
Ejemplo 2: Un libro sobre una mesa tiene la gravedad jalándolo hacia abajo y la mesa empujándolo hacia arriba por igual, así que no se mueve.
Ejemplo 3: Dale un solo empujón a un disco de hockey en hielo liso y sigue deslizándose. Se frena solo porque la fricción lo empuja de regreso.
