What this lesson teaches

Some animals survive better by living in groups instead of alone. A group can help find food, watch for danger, and protect one another. Working together gives each animal a better chance.

Worked examples

Example 1

Wolves hunt in a pack, so they can take down prey much larger than one wolf could alone. A herd of zebras has many eyes watching, so they spot a lion faster than a single zebra would.

Example 2

Emperor penguins huddle in a tight circle so the group stays warm in a storm that would kill a lone bird.

Example 3

Ants carry a crumb together that none of them could move alone, then share the food with the colony.
