2-LS2 Plants depend on water, light and animals

Aligned to 2-LS2 — Next Generation Science Standards.

What this lesson teaches

Plants need water and sunlight to grow strong. Plants also need animals for help. Bees move pollen from flower to flower, and animals carry seeds to new places so more plants can grow.

Worked example

A bean seed planted in a sunny window with water sprouts and grows, but a bean kept in a dark closet stays weak and pale. Outside, a bee landing on flowers carries pollen that helps the plant make new seeds.

Practice questions

  1. What two things does a plant need to grow well?
  2. How do bees help flowers?
  3. Predict what happens to a plant kept in a dark room with no light.
