Reading with Fluency

What this lesson teaches
Fluent reading is smooth, accurate, and expressive — like talking. Reading at the right speed helps you understand what you read.
Worked examples
Example 1
Reading 'The dog barked loudly!' with excitement, not word-by-word, shows fluency and helps the meaning come through.
Example 2
Reading 'Wait!' she whispered. in a whisper, and 'Run!' he shouted. loudly, matches your voice to what the words say.
Example 3
When a sentence stops you, read it again. Reading the same line twice is normal and is how fluency is built, not a sign you are behind.

- Read a sentence smoothly, then read it again with feeling.
- Why does reading too fast or too slow make it hard to understand?
- Practice a sentence until it sounds like talking.

Lectura con fluidez
La lectura fluida es suave, precisa y expresiva, como cuando hablas. Leer a la velocidad adecuada te ayuda a comprender lo que lees.
Ejemplo 1: Leer 'The dog barked loudly!' con emoción, y no palabra por palabra, muestra fluidez y ayuda a que el significado se entienda.
Ejemplo 2: Leer '¡Espera!' susurró ella. en susurro, y '¡Corre!' gritó él. fuerte, hace que tu voz combine con lo que dicen las palabras.
Ejemplo 3: Cuando una oración te detiene, léela otra vez. Leer el mismo renglón dos veces es normal y así se construye la fluidez, no es señal de que vas atrasado.
