What this lesson teaches
Standard English grammar rests on conventions that most writers follow, yet some rules are debated and change over time. Command means applying accepted usage while recognizing where usage is genuinely contested.

The old rule against ending a sentence with a preposition is widely rejected today — 'the topic I wrote about' is standard and clear.

La gramática estándar se apoya en convenciones que la mayoría de los escritores sigue, aunque algunas reglas se debaten y cambian con el tiempo. Dominarla significa aplicar el uso aceptado mientras reconoces dónde el uso es genuinamente discutido.
Ejemplo: La norma que quitó la tilde a 'sólo' (adverbio) sigue siendo discutida: muchos escritores la mantienen para evitar ambigüedad, lo que muestra que el uso es convención y puede debatirse.
