Seeing in the Dark
Aligned to 1-PS4-2 — Next Generation Science Standards.
What this lesson teaches
We can only see things when light shines on them. In the dark, our eyes have no light to catch, so everything disappears.
Worked example
When you turn off the light at bedtime, your toys are still there — but you cannot see them until someone opens the door and light comes in.
Practice questions
- Close your eyes and cover them with your hands. What can you see?
- Look under a bed or inside a closet with the light off, then with a flashlight. What changes?
- Notice how the room looks when the lights turn off at night.
