What this lesson teaches
Baby animals need their parents to stay safe and grow. Parents feed, warm, and protect their babies until they can care for themselves.
Worked examples
Example 1
A baby bird cheeps loudly, and its mother brings food right to the nest. The cheeping tells the mother the baby is hungry.
Example 2
A mother cat carries her kitten by the scruff to move it somewhere safer.
Example 3
A baby elephant stays close to the herd. Staying near grown-ups is how many young animals stay safe.
Practice questions
- Watch a bird, dog, or cat with its babies. How does the parent help?
- How does a puppy or kitten tell its mother it is hungry?
- Notice a baby animal following its parent closely. Why might it stay so close?

Animales bebés y sus padres
